excellent. Great change from the typical zombie plague. This book had a good mix of gore, violence, and for lack of a better word, romance.
I was completely invested from beginning to end. This was a thrilling ride with twists and turns that had me hanging on the edge of my seat.
I loved that Carson was a strong woman yet still feminine and accepted help from others. Sometimes a strong heroine in a book is portrayed in a " I don't need anyone" way or is a "man hater" and that is a real turn off for me. This was not a book about a simple romance nor was it only a thriller, but a great mix of both.
Although the heroine has a child that is front and center throughout the novel, he is not annoying in the least bit and his character is written extremely well.
I really enjoyed carsons fight scenes with the katana's. I love knives and swords and that the heroine used them in this story was unique.
To those who are sensitive to the subject there is a rape scene however, she gets to exact her own vigilante justice on her rapists that was pretty satisfying.
I also enjoyed reading about living off the grid. It is something I am quite interested in doing myself, therefore it was nice to read about the wind turbine and solar power etc. This was an exciting story that I am thankful was not an ongoing series. It ended nice and tidy with no regrets. Oh no grammatical errors that jumped out at me either. Then again I was pretty absorbed in the story to really notice anything other than the obvious. I absolutely recommend this book.

Days of Love and Blood RS Carter 9781482042054 Books Reviews

I really enjoyed this book and it stands out for its genre. There were many strengths, one it them being that it was a complete book. No cliffhangers, no waiting for the next installment. The character development was in depth and extended to more than just the main character. I genuinely liked many of the characters despite their flaws and perhaps because of them. There was suspense, action, drama, and romance. I liked that the romance was not just all about sex. The sex scenes were mildly graphic but didn't detract from the story because they weren't the focus of the love story. I get frustrated when a book has potential and the author dumbs it down with graphic sex and the plot dwindles. This book was not like that and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Warning there was a graphic sexual assault which might be difficult for some to get past.
There are so many things I loved in this story. Carson and her son Ronin are on the run from Homicidals, almost dead people that are extremely violent and deadly to living humans. They then meet up with a group of people in her home town and decide to stay there. Carson is one tough cookie that kills the homicidals with swords much like Michonne in the Walking Dead. Carson has a bit of a secret too that she enjoys killing these things and she does have a passion for killing them. Carson is a strong, independent and likable Heroine and is the backbone of this story.

Each chapter begins with flashback memories of her relationship with her now dead husband. The rest of the chapter goes into the life of living in this new world but also the relationships she forms with the survivors. The cast of characters are interesting, as well as, Carson's relationship with them. Cooper is a quiet and reclusive guy in the group but he and Carson start of friendship of quietness and just being together. Cooper is different with her - he's attentive, caring and affectionate with her son. Cooper has a reason he's the way he is too and they are no so different from each other. Ben comes into the group later on and seems to be attracted to Carson and of course Cooper is not happy with this. The relationship with Ben and Carson is intriguing and helps build tension with her tenuous relationship with Cooper. There are a few sex scenes but not overdone in an Erotica way.

Now the Homicidals. I found this take on the apocalypse creative and riveting. These people were still alive and could talk and interact with others as well as other Homicidals. They may start yelling at you saying things like. "are you looking at me B", then go after you with an axe. Kind of like your worse road rage nightmare. They attack scenes are heart pounding excitement. The author also takes on moral issues like when is it OK to kill someone whether a Homicidal or Human. It was an interesting viewpoint especially when asking the question about humans - even very bad rapist humans. There also is a rape scene that is graphic, however, the crux of the rape is more about the moral issues debated with the Survivors. A definite read of Zombie/Apocalypse fans!
The description on this book was a little misleading, but I didn't mind. There was never love triangle here, which is a good thing. There is a rape scene that many might not be comfortable with. I would have loved Cooper if not for the one very public scene that was straight up verbal abuse. I lost all respect for him there and if I were the author, I would cut that scene. This guy is brutal in his jealousy. Then we had the part that I didn't understand at all. A flashback just before Richies murder showed Ritchie not talking to her for two months, no longer sleeping with her and her thinking of looking for an apartment on her own. This was never explained and was so different than all the other flashbacks. So you may ask why I gave it 4 stars if I were going to complain about it. I did that because despite these flaws, the writer was very good. I cried many times. Seriously, don't read without a box of tissues! She pulled all the strings to keep me an emotional wreck through it all, yet gave us a happily ever after, despite that. This is the kind of dystopian book I love to read. I read a dystopian novel to root for humanity and to see them overcome terrible hardships stronger than they started. If the author better explained that flashback and removed the public humiliation scene, I would give this 5 stars and it would go on my Favorites List. And not many books make that list. Only books I consider truly exceptional do. Oh, and I am a Reedus fan too! I was actually seeing him in my head when reading this, but I still don't think he would go as far as you took him.
